Let’s face it, our current education system is fundamentally flawed.

If you’re a student, you probably heard that statement a good amount of times in your life.

Or maybe thought of it yourself during a mind-blanking lecture or a stressful preparation for a test.

If no one has ever told you before, I’m here to tell you: you’re right about that. In fact, I would need a 1,000,000 words article to talk about all the ways our education system is harming education.

But why don’t we leave it for another day, my friend? Because I’m here to talk to you about something else: solutions.

Not all solutions, actually, it’s just one of many solutions, which is our good friend, the artificial intelligence (you probably guessed it from the headline).

AI is EVERYWHERE… in sci-fi movies, in your Instagram algorithm, in your phone’s facial recognition feature… It’s already making your life easier.

But have you ever thought it can save you from suffering the consequences of a failing education system? I don’t know if you did, but I’m here to tell you, it can, and it will.

AI is already making a huge impact on Learning & Development. And it’s not going anywhere anytime soon, for it has been proven to have a positive impact on many aspects of your learning experience.

Interested in knowing how it’s shaping the future of education? Stick around then, because I’ll be talking to you about 5 ways AI can improve your learning experience.

How AI Can Help You Maximize Your Learning Outcomes

1. Personalized Curriculum, Just For You

People learn differently, we know that.

The factors that influence learning outcomes are complex and interconnected. They can vary from your prior knowledge of the subject to your socioeconomic status…

That’s so much intersection, I know.

But it’s true and proven, and it leaves us with a conviction that a “one size fits all” approach to learning is no longer relevant, even harmful.

Luckily, we live in a time where that type of challenge is possible to overcome.

With the help of AI, we can now create a student learning profile by collecting and analyzing data from different sources. That way, we will be able to adjust learning components such as the pace of learning, the technology used, and the instructional approach according to the history, the needs, and the learning purpose of each student.

This approach is proven to increase engagement, optimize knowledge acquisition, and maximize learning outcomes. Kinda what you want, right?

2. Better Communication With Your Instructor

Your interaction with your instructor has a great impact on your satisfaction and learning outcomes. Not only that, but it also affects your self-esteem and motivation.

Better communication between the learners and instructors has been proven to improve the student’s performance. And yeah, you guessed it, AI has been proven to improve the quantity and quality of communication. (It’s fine if you didn’t guess it)

AI systems can provide a personalized learner-instructor experience. By responding to your introductions, answering frequently asked questions, and keeping you on track by offering constant feedback on the progress you are making.

Moreover, Students believe that the anonymity afforded by AI would ease their self-consciousness and, as a result, allow them to ask more questions.

However, it’s worth mentioning that students also reported some concerns about the ethical side of the matter. You might want to check them out here.

3. Adding Fun to Learning, With Virtual Reality

VR is getting so much well-deserved attention from the eLearning industry currently because it’s opening up new learning environments that were otherwise impossible to realize.

Virtual reality allows you to get hands-on experience by interacting with the learning material in a virtual environment, which will intensify psychological engagement (the important type of engagement), hence, the learning outcomes and the motivation to learn.

A very good example of the use of VR in education is in the medical field, where a virtual environment can be used in processes and procedures. This will allow the learner to practice what she has learned while eliminating her fear of harming real patients.

4. Keeping You Motivated

Technology in education gives you the privilege of learning at your own pace.

That sounds great, I know. But it also makes procrastinating, giving up, or dropping out a lot easier, right?

And because we humans are funny, we’re solving a problem created by technology by adding a little more technology to the mix. But believe me, it works.

By analyzing your learning history, AI can know when you’re at the risk of dropping out or giving up, and it can prevent that by introducing the right activities for each stage of your journey.

AI systems are designed based on the notion that learning is an active process, and their goal is to keep you engaged throughout the course by fostering activities meant to boost your psychological engagement.

5. Supporting You Outside The Classroom.

A big part of your experience as a student happens outside of the classroom, and if you read the first section, you now know that not everyone learns at the same pace or needs the same level of support. Keeping both of those facts in mind, the assistance you need outside the classroom may be as crucial as your experience inside.

AI can make this process more fun for you, and less stressful for your instructor.

How’s that? Well, hear me out…

As I mentioned earlier, the anonymity that AI provides would make you more willing to ask more questions.

Add to that the unmeasurable amounts of data that AI has access to (including your learning history and preferences) and you’ll get just-in-time, personalized, and relevant answers and resources.

The Future of AI in eLearning.

It might be interesting to keep in mind that the use of AI is quite a new approach to education. The practices I just talked to you about are just the tip of the iceberg of what AI is capable of doing.

Combining it with other technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality, AI is expected to completely transform the education industry.

What we’re looking for is a more personalized, engaging, accessible, and flexible education.

I don’t know about you yet, but I think that’s a huge step towards saving the education system.

So why don’t you go ahead and let me know what you think… are you excited like a part of me? Concerned like the other part of me? Or you don’t really care?
