In today’s modern society, we see an increasing decay of moral values.

It is manifested as behaviors that can range from : Hatred, Envy, Sarcasm… and any type of toxicity. To mass shootings, injustice and fraud.

So why this is the case ?

I used to think that as we get more civilized, and modernized, we will move towards higher forms of civilization, especially with the advances of technology. It will make our life easier, safer, and productive. This will result to less bitterness, which I think is the main cause for all those toxic behaviors.

I think that is because of lack of moral, purpose, and ethics in society, which are not taught well in homes, schools, and even universities. People care just about some meaningless, materialistic things like grades, and money.

But having ethics, and moral values don’t have a price tag, they are far more important and durable in life.

So why read fables and folktales ?

Well. It is because they are easy ways to convey a moral lesson in a childish and yet understandable format. They are quick to read and quick to understand.

In this modern age when we “think” we don’t have enough time to read. And instead of reading some “ego-boosting” affirmations and self-help books. It pays to read those funny stories that are written hundreds or even thousands of years ago.

And I honesly find that old, and simple wisdom never actually dies.

Fables are a wonderful way to teach a child (everyone I believe) about morals and life lessons. They are stories that have been passed down over generations, trickling down to the present to deliver important lessons about life, nature, love, friendship, and being a good person.

Some books to consider.

- Aesop’s Fables:

A group of stories thought to have been written by Aesop, a Greek storyteller.

- The Little Prince:

A book by the great Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It will teach you a lot about finding the truth of things beyond the surface.

Conclusion:

I know what you thinking now seeing those covers, “Am I going to read a bunch of children’s books ?”. But, you have to keep an open mind, and absorb wisdom and knowledge from anything, and anyone.

You will be delighted after you start reading them. believe me, they are beautiful, and can make you a child all over again.
