What is Web Analytics?
Web analytics collects and analyzes all the elements of a website in various ways. Measurements in Web marketing activities is regarded as one of the most important processors for marketing goals. Web analytics is not only a process for measuring web traffic, but it can also be used as a business and market research tool, or it can evaluate and improve the effectiveness of a website.
It helps companies measure the results of traditional print or broadcast advertising campaigns as well as predict traffic changes to a website after starting a new ad campaign. In addition, the results of the analysis can be used to analyze the difference between the number of visits and the number of visitors and that of hits and the page view, and other variety of indicators such as unique visitors, return visitors, first visitors, conversion rates, delayed conversion rates.
Why Web Analytics in Eden?
EdenChain is a Permissioned blockchain platform. Various kinds of Dapp such as game, SNS, Business Application will be served on EdenChain base. We believe the success of EdenChain depends on the number of DApps choosing EdenChain and those DApps’ success on the number of users as well as their ability to create real demands of EdenCoin. From the standpoint of a typical user, DApp is not a platform but an actual blockchain technology. Therefore, DApp needs to capture user’s needs and perform necessary functions reliably and quickly.
User-driven data is essential for developers to develop valuable DApps while reflecting the needs of their users. It is indispensable to study the number of daily visitors, duration of the usage and the percentage of people leaving the service during the sign-up process in order to make valuable DApps.
EdenChain is considering developing Web Analytics-related features to provide this information to DApp developers. Providing the user information of the DApps served by GoE, developers will be able to continuously improve DApp and attract more users. For DApp developers, it’s not easy to devote extra resources to Web Analytics as a lot of resources is required to develop and run DApps. However, getting it through GoE would contribute to growing the ecosystem of EdenChain stronger.
Additionally, it provides many insights into the operation and service improvement of GoE. Developers can collect information about mainly used functions and duration of stay, allowing them to easily see the possible improvements opportunity. We want to provide GoE services that are easy and fast, using Web Analytics, I want to provide GoE services that are easy and fast for many people.
Web Analytics process
The analysis process of Google Analytics is shown in the figure below.

– Collection: Collects all data related to users
– Configuration: Sets and manages the data processing method
– Processing: Process data collected according to the settings
– Reporting: Provides processed data
Most Web Analytics tools work in a large fashion similar to the format above.
Applies to Analytics
We have been testing this on the Testnet, edenchain.io and etc and will apply it to all DApps, including the Garden of Eden. The analyzed information will be used for future service upgrades.
Technological Issue
1. Traffic drops
Weblog analysis, JavaScript tagging, and packet sniffing will load the host system. Since the amount of load will vary depending on the combination of host system structure and analytics data acquisition method, it is required to check the system load when changing the website code or changing the tracking code.
2. Problems with cookies.
Most Web Analytics tools use cookies to track users. The main purpose of using cookies is to identify unique visitors. The visitor’s classification is dependent on the persistent cookie holding the unique visitor ID. For security reasons, however, most browser and anti-spyware applications are designed to reject and remove cookies used in Web Analytics. For this reason, ID conversion and clickstream analysis of unique visitors and other metrics that rely on visitor activity over time may not be accurate. Care should be taken in setting up cookies and tracking codes in order to avoid the problems mentioned above and problems with the GDPR rule. The following figure shows an example of incorrect data collection according to the tracking code and cookie settings in Google analytics.

Web Analytics is a must for successful service operations and will be applied to GoE and Dapp as reflected from system design. This valuable insight can continue to improve various services. Considering the overall process of service development, the value of Web Analytics is less than the time spent in development, as it takes much longer to operate and improve.
