Eden Network is excited to announce the upgrade and rollout of its geth client, Eden-Geth v.1.10.8. Deployment is underway with Eden Block Producers after two weeks of thorough beta testing. Key changes in this iteration include better alignment of economic incentives for Block Producers, and enhanced user experience for Slot Tenants. Over two months of robust end user utilization and feedback went into this Geth upgrade — a big thank you to all the early adopters of Eden Network!

Upgrade Details

The core improvement to this Geth version involves adjusting the rules that block producers follow for Staker transaction inclusion in the block. Eden blocks will now be built based on priority fee, and transaction ordering will be determined based on EDEN staked.

Secondary improvements focus on adapting slot transaction behavior based on slot tenant feedback. In particular, we have modified how replacement transactions are handled, and fixed an issue related to how incoming transactions are processed during block production. These changes make slots easier to use and improve the experience for slot tenants.

Implications for Stakers

This update improves reliability for Stakers receiving transaction priority in Eden blocks. Previously, during short and specific periods of time of high demand — such as during NFT drops — having priority in Eden Blocks was not reliable. This resulted in disappointed Stakers because either their transactions were not included in blocks or because their transactions were included but the stake was not considered for priority. Now, Stakers can expect that their transactions will be prioritized according to their staked EDEN balance, even in times of high network demand.

To be included and prioritized in an Eden block, Stakers must submit transactions with the minimum competitive priority fee determined by the network. In other words, Stakers who submit transactions with at least the minimum transaction fee in the block can expect to be prioritized, even in times of high network demand.

Implications for Block Producers

This update results in increased revenue for Eden Block Producers by protecting priority fee income on Eden blocks during fee spikes. Priority fees are captured in Eden blocks, the benefits of priority for Staker transactions are maintained, and block producers continue to receive EDEN rewards according to the emissions schedule.

Implications for Slot Tenants

We are grateful to our slot tenants for their early feedback and participation in the open auctions for future block space. This update is based on their feedback and reduces the technical complexity and costs of slot operation. We expect it to make Slot Tenants more profitable and increase demand to rent slots. Among other changes Slot Tenants no longer have to increase their gas price every time they want to overwrite a transaction that wasn’t mined. Instead, if a transaction is not mined within the first block, the transaction drops, and another one can be submitted without a gas price increase.

We expect these geth changes to positively impact all stakeholders in the Eden ecosystem. Stakers have more reliable priority, Slot Tenants have a simpler UX, and Block Producers have increased revenue.
