Edgecoin shuts down its Telegram chat channel due to security concerns and numerous bots and phishing attacks.
At Edgecoin.io we take the security of our systems, channels, and users seriously. Even though Telegram is one of the most popular social media and communication channels within the Blockchain industry, we decided to take action and shut down our telegram channel with immediate effect.
This decision has been made because of huge security concerns regarding the very hostile but hidden environment on Telegram. Telegram often is used by hackers, spammers, and other illegally active individuals or organizations to obtain essential data through different hacking technics such as phishing or placing trojans on Telegram users smartphones.
On Edgecoin’s Telegram alone, we had to deal with fake accounts, phishing content, and hack attempts by double digits on a daily basis. It took a lot of time and energy to counteract.
It’s very alarming to see such a popular social platform struggling with so many security gaps like Telegram, and it should recalibrate its security measures.
