This article is about investing, but not the traditional investing that you usually hear about.

What if I told you that this investment has more to do with time and money?

What if I told you that this investment is readily available to everyone?

Would you believe me?

You might — you might not. I know a little bit about investing but am in no way an expert. So, with that being said, I tried to find credible opinion on the subject (beyond my own). It just so happens that there are a lot of successful people who also give this investment advice.

Let me introduce you to Mark Cuban (I don’t actually know him, but he is relevant to this exercise and you will find out why shortly). Mark Cuban is the current owner of the Dallas Mavericks (NBA Basketball team). He is also an entrepreneur, investor, and is well-known for being a regular on the show “Shark Tank.”

Mark Cuban has had an incredibly successful business career, but he also has his fair share of ups and downs. He was fired from some early jobs and succeeded in others, especially as an entrepreneur.

When asked recently about the best investment he ever made — and there are a lot to choose from — Cuban was quick to answer. Was it a company that made him wealthy? Was it being on the show “Shark Tank”? Was it buying the Dallas Mavericks?

No… Cuban shares that the single best investment he has ever made is in himself.

There are articles all over the place that cover the comments he made. To spare you from searching here are a few of his thoughts.

Some of the best investments I ever made were investing in myself, first and foremost. When you’re first starting, you may or may not have a job. You don’t have any money. You’re at a complete uncertainty about your career.

What I learned early on is that if I put in the effort, I can learn almost anything. It may take me a long time, but by putting in the effort I taught myself technology, I taught myself to program … it was time-consuming — painfully so — but that investment in myself has paid dividends for the rest of my life.

I learned that learning truly is a skill … and that by continuing to learn to this day, I can compete and get ahead of most people, because the reality is most people don’t put in the time to learn … and that’s always given me a competitive advantage. — Interview with Men’s Health Magazine

Now, let’s talk about someone else who has similar advice — Warren Buffet.

His success is slightly more well-known than that of Mark Cuban as Buffett is one of the richest individuals on the planet. He is also known to be extremely humble and focused on making the world a better place.

In a recent article on Inc.com (see below), the 90-year old shared his advice for accomplishing your dreams. His formula is quite straightforward but requires a diligent effort over a lifetime to achieve.

  1. Choose your friends wisely
  2. Go to bed a little smarter each day
  3. Improve your communication skills
  4. Say “no”

If you want to know specifics, I suggest that you read the article above. 👆

My takeaway from both Buffett’s and Cuban’s comments is that success does not come from how much money you make… it comes from meeting the goals that YOU set out for YOURSELF. Both Mark Cuban and Warren Buffett have incredible fortunes, but they also push themselves to be better every day — that is what truly makes them successful. They truly understand which investment yields the greatest return.

Everyone has the ability to invest in themselves. The unfortunate thing is that many individuals do not do it. There is no better time to start than right now! Head over to www.learnwithedifi.com to find out how you can invest in yourself today.
