Edison Spaces Launches Program to Jumpstart Kansas City Entrepreneurs Into Office Space

Edison Spaces announced a new grant program to remove barriers and help emerging Kansas City startups into office space.

Called Edison Spaces Jumpstart, the program arms startups with three months of free office space at Edison Spaces and gives them access to business resources, through its parent company Edison Factory, a value of more than $6600.

Edison Spaces Jumpstart will accept applications from metro-area small businesses founded within the past six to 24 months, that have teams of two to eight people, and have secured or plan to secure seed funding within six months of applying. The Jumpstart program will be ongoing and will accept startups meeting its criteria as long as space is available.

Edison Spaces provides flexible, fully-furnished, private office space with month-to-month lease options. Because of their business model, the company typically has 10 to 15 percent of its space available at any given time and wanted to leverage that available space by giving back to entrepreneurs breaking into the market.

“We think (the program is) the right thing to do with our empty offices, and we’re looking forward to putting opportunity out there in front of people who maybe were afraid to take that next step and get into an office,” Matt Druten, Edison Spaces CEO and co-founder, recently told the Kansas City Business Journal.

Edison Spaces was founded on the belief that dedicated office space is better suited to deep work and can give startups their own identity, boost productivity and catapult growth. Current clients (not technically tenants because they are licensees) range from mortgage companies and tech startups to marketing and real estate development companies.

“We’ve always said Edison Spaces was built by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs,” said Druten in a recent Startland News article. “[We thought] let’s back ourselves up here.”
