A Daughter’s Insight into Lisa Marie Presley’s Untold Heartbreak
Elvis Presley’s only child Lisa Marie passed away at age 53 in 2020, with the official cause being a small-bowel obstruction years after weight loss surgery. However, her daughter and actress Riley Keough has now shared more insights on the emotional toll that truly led to her mother’s demise.
In a recent interview with People magazine, Keough opened up about how the suicide of her brother Benjamin in 2020 at 27 had deeply affected Lisa Marie. The 35-year-old actress stated that her mother tried staying strong for her and her younger sisters after Benjamin’s tragic passing, but was clearly in immense pain. Lisa Marie shared Riley and Benjamin with ex-husband Danny Keough, and also had 15-year-old twins with second ex-husband Michael Lockwood.
While the bowel obstruction was cited as the physical cause of death, Keough believes her mother truly “died of a broken heart” after losing a child. Lisa Marie was in the process of penning her memoir “From Here to the Great Unknown” prior to passing, with Keough stepping in to complete the book by listening to her recorded stories. Set to release in October, the memoir offers insights from both mother and daughter as they seek healing through the writing process.
