Rapper L.Mont Files Copyright Lawsuit Against Quavo
Louisiana rapper L.Mont, whose real name is Lamount London, has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against American rapper Quavo. The lawsuit centers around Quavo’s 2018 solo track “Bubble Gum” from his debut album Quavo Huncho.
L.Mont claims that he originally recorded a song called “Bubblegum” in 2015 that he registered with the U.S. Copyright Office. According to the complaint, L.Mont performed as an opening act for 2 Chainz and Migos, of which Quavo is a member, in New Orleans in 2016. After the show, L.Mont alleges that he gave Quavo a demo CD containing his “Bubblegum” track in hopes of collaborating.
However, L.Mont asserts that without permission, Quavo copied elements of his “Bubblegum” song and incorporated them into the track of the same name on his 2018 album. The lawsuit notes similarities in lyrics, vocals, tempo, and structure between the two songs. L.Mont maintains that Quavo infringed on his copyrights by reproducing, distributing, and creating an unauthorized derivative work.
