Rap superstars like Kendrick Lamar, Future and Rick Ross have been taking shots at Drake lately, igniting what some are calling a civil war in hip-hop. It all started with subtle jabs on tracks like “Like That” and blown up into full-fledged diss tracks from both sides.

So what exactly sparked this beef? It appears to stem from ongoing resentments that have been simmering for years between Drake and his former collaborators. Drake hinted as much on his track “Push Ups,” noting this dispute has been “brewin’ in a pot” for some time.

Starting off with Kendrick. Their beef be traced back over a decade to when Kendrick called Drake out on “Control.” Their exchange of subliminal messages grew more heated over the years, with Kendrick unleashing openly on “Like That.”

Future and Drake’s partnership on “What a Time to Be Alive” was hugely successful, but rumors suggest Future wasn’t happy about Drake collaborating with 21 Savage instead of him later on. This tension may have influenced Future’s verses on “We Don’t Trust You.”

Rick Ross’ surprise appearance on that same project confused fans, given his history of collaborating with Drake. But of course, old rumors of Ross talking behind Drake’s back have resurfaced as well.

Other artists like The Weeknd and A$AP Rocky have also taken shots at Drake recently, dredging up past issues around labels and relationships. Drake has been firing back, targeting figures like Kendrick, Ross, and J Cole on “Push Ups.”

With so many heavyweights aligning against him, Drake finds himself in a David vs Goliath scenario. We will keep an eye to see if he can emerge victorious, as Uma Thurman’s character did in Kill Bill, or if this rap “civil war” will escalate even further.
