The Client

The International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) is an independent, non-political organization promoting professionalism, recognition, and training of marine surveyors across the globe. Consisting a worldwide membership of around 1,000 individuals from over 90 countries, it is the largest organization of its kind and seeks to represent the industry to government and NGOs such as the International Marine Organization (IMO), Coastguards, insurance companies and ship owners.

The Problem Statement

The ever-advancing technological environment in the maritime world forms the context within which marine surveyors must operate; but marine surveyors work ashore only when their services are required. Their work is restricted to the opportunities they receive based on their skills, competencies, market conditions, associated budgets, and geographical identification. How then to ensure that the members keep their skills sharp?

The Solution

IIMS encourages its members to pursue a program of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), thus enabling them to maintain their knowledge base, standards, and competency levels. The IIMS CPD app (available on Play Store and App Store) enables members to view their up-to-date CPD score, simplifies the process of claiming points, keeps them posted about upcoming IIMS events, displays current IIMS CPD Points table, facilitates contact with the IIMS CPD admin for assistance, and displays IIMS CPD news as in-app notifications.
