Just like other organs of the body requires nutrients to function, the brain too needs its food to perform and there are some delicacies that makes the grey matter happy! Want to know what are they? Fatty fish: Fish lovers will surely rejoice on seeing this entry. But yes, sea fish like sardines, salmon, albacore tuna and mackerel are full of omega-3 fatty acids that is considered to be an important ingredient for the brain. In fact, a study conducted at Tufts University in 2006 shows that people who ate fish thrice a week have the highest level of DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid), an important omega-3 fatty acid found in fish oil and also constitutes 40% of the fatty acid present in brain cell membrane. High level of DHA lowers the chance of Alzheimer disease by 39%.

Berries: Studies have proved that berries, particularly blueberries are rich source of antioxidants and if consumed daily can help you deal with short term memory loss.

Green, leafy veggies: Broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprout, cauliflower are some of the green veggies that are rich in antioxidants like vitamin C and carotenoids, a plant compound which are considered to be brain boosters. Hence, a daily dose of these green vegetables is a must-have in your platter.

Nuts: Omega-3 fatty acids is also present in nuts like walnuts that, as you have already seen can trigger the function of neurotransmitters in your brain. Walnut is also a rich source of vitamin B6, an important memory protector. So, don’t forget to include a handful of walnuts in your salad or just have them as your afternoon snack!

Wholegrains: Your brain needs energy to perform and this energy is supplied in the form of glucose in your blood. Get this glucose from a good dosage of wholegrains like brown pasta, wheatbran, brown cereals and brown rice.
