#CPN2018 Kicks Off In the Big Easy As Campus Administrators and Advocates Convene for 10th Annual Prevention Education Summit
Today, EVERFI kicked off their 10th Annual Campus Prevention Network Summit in the city famously known for beignets and brass bands.
The Summit is a three-day gathering for higher education professionals to learn and share strategies for enhancing prevention efforts at their institutions and includes 20 breakout sessions incorporating research and best practice within four content tracks focused on Sexual Assault & Harassment, Alcohol & Other Drugs, Wellness & Mental Health, and Diversity & Inclusion.
The first day moved full steam ahead with a morning keynote from Professor of Psychology at San Diego State University, Jean Twenge, Ph.D, author of “Why Today’s Super Connected Kids Are Growing Up Less Rebellious, More Tolerant, Less Happy- and Completely Unprepared for Adulthood.” During the keynote, she shared some of her own research and explained why the word “adult” has expanded from a noun to a verb.
EVERFI’s Senior Director of Prevention Education, Kimberley Timpf, led the first plenary session of the day, “Whats Trending Now: Alcohol, Other Drugs, and the Roles of Institutionalization”.
EVERFI Prevention Education Director, Erin McClintock, completed the day with a plenary session on mental health in her session “The State of Well-Being on Campus: Using Critical Processes to Actualize Change”.
Finally, after a day full of thought leadership discussions, research informed presentations, professional development workshops and course demonstrations, attendees(literally)paraded down the street for an evening at the historic Latrobe’s on Royal to as the locals say, “laissez les bon temps rouler!”
