CASE and the Learning Ecosystem
Recently a group of CASE Network sponsors met local school districts in Orlando, Florida as part of CASE outreach efforts with IMS Global. There were great presentations by CASE Network Sponsors but mostly excellent learning about interoperability among the dozen or so school districts in attendance.
However, there were two specific things that stood out to me. One was that I was referred to as a “CASE Old-timer” because I am one a handful of people that was involved with the spec from before it was a finalized specification in 2017, and still am. There is a much larger group that was involved from Higher Ed and K12 that got it started around 2015 that I keep finding out about as well. My involvement has grown from knowing nothing, to interested observer and active participant, to co-chair of the technical specification committee since 2018. While at first this comment still took me by surprise, I wasn’t upset and even appreciated the mention. Sometimes in this work full of details it’s difficult look up and appreciate the time and hard work every so often!
The second awakening experience was this blog’s title graphic on a slide as presented by Bruce Umpstead of IMS Global. Learning standards/competencies have always been seen as the ‘backbone’ to a course, or grades, or the ‘results’ of an education anyway — but with CASE they are explicitly the most common…
