The Department for Education (DfE) has published a list of EdTech resources for parents and carers who are home-schooling children during the coronavirus school shutdown, accompanied by guidance on safeguarding.

The list of resources includes five EdTech companies that participated in the UCL EDUCATE programme, over the past three years.

Schools closed their doors to all but the children of front-line workers just over two weeks ago, leaving millions of parents juggling working at home with trying to educate their children using work provided by their teachers.

The DfE guidance, which was compiled with input from the EdTech Strategy Leadership Group, aims to supplement the work set by schools and to encourage children and young people to study independently. It will be updated as school closures continue.

The five EDUCATE participants are Pobble, which is a recipient of an Evidence-Applied EdWard; MangaHigh, Mathigon and the Institute of Physics, all Evidence-Aware EdWardees; and Seneca.

Gavin Williamson, Education Secretary

Gavin Williamson, the Secretary of State for Education, said: “Education Secretary Gavin Williamson said: “Schools across the country are going above and beyond to support children during this hugely challenging period.

“We are ensuring parents and schools are able to access highly-quality resources to support children to continue learning while they stay at home to protect the NHS and save lives.”

Mr Williamson added that the government would make additional funding available to schools facing unavoidable costs incurred as a result of the coronavirus crisis.
