Critical Thinking Workshops in India: The Reasons

As per the modern trends in the education sector, teaching critical thinking has gained importance though in a small way . In a country where primary education has still not reached into all the parts and is still a major reason of concern ,there is a paradigm shift being experienced with a change in the teaching patterns at schools and colleges. The higher education parameters have changed and the corporate sector is also evolving with a huge requirement for individuals which are able to be independent think tanks which can work cohesively with other like minded people. There is greater focus on topics like logical reasoning , lateral thinking and other critical thinking topics .
Along with that there is also more emphasis on group exercises and activity based learning. Reasons are aplenty if we want to probe on why is there a shift from classroom based teaching to workshop oriented methodologies. I am putting down some for your reference. Will appreciate if there are additions to it by the viewers of the article:
- The industry trends have changed and now there is a requirement for individuals which are good in working in groups/teams.
- Critical Thinking is now adopted and applied in all major UG/PG colleges in their classroom activities. There are brainstorming, story boarding sessions common in colleges specially in engineering institues, colleges where media, fashion designing subjects are taken up.
- In all major entrance examinations; Logical Reasoning , Data Interpretation and English are the sections/topics on which the questions are based upon. This kind of pattern is present for both national and international based exam patterns (Case in point GRE, GMAT, CAT and many more)
- The challenges are there to solve real life scenarios in every sector and so the workforce is being trained to use critical thinking measures to come up with innovative solutions which can be applied at small/large scale.
- The advent and stupendous success of Start ups in the nation has also given boost to these workshops since now people are seeing and relating to the success stories which are a) Indian b) Successful c) Born from an IDEA.
