Exercise and Teacher Professional Development Mashup

The 18-Day Challenge

Coffee, donuts, pizza, chocolates and pastries are all staple parts of the teacher professional development process. Teachers often sit in hours of professional development lectures and eat the various forms of high sugar and high calorie snacks provided.

Teachers have to attend these sessions, in order to earn continuing education credits toward mandatory licensure renewal.

Well, professional development just became more meaningful and healthy. Exercise is a personal choice; Teachers can choose running, walking, yoga, meditation, etc. Teachers can join The 18-Day Challenge by exercising for 45 minutes each day, at their personalized level of intensity.

While exercising, teachers can listen to an educational podcast/webinar of their choice (link to sample webinars). After listening to the podcast/webinar of choice, teachers can summarize how they will use the content in their instructional practices. Summaries can be posted via Twitter or Pinterest. Once teachers have a collection of 18 summaries, their Pinterest board or Storify Tweets can be submitted for graduate credit.

The 18-Day Challenge is a more meaningful way of making PD relevant, fun and healthy.
