Looking Back on My 2024 Medium Stories Feeling Like I Could Have Done More.

It is 4:42 PM in Los Angeles, not yet sunset as the marine layer rolls in to prevent the usual picture-perfect end of the day on the Pacific Coast. The clock is ticking to the end of the year. How many reflections have I had over the past week about 11:59 PM, Tuesday, December 31, of the Gregorian calendar 2024?

Why do we put so much weight on a specific minute of a specific day each year? Hours before midnight, there are lots of questions without answers. It is as if we are plunged into the abyss of our mortality for a brief moment. Then suddenly at 12:00 AM a new year begins and we are back to our rational state of mind.

Was the 366 days of 2024 just a dream?* Oddly, once a year concludes it takes on a different status. It falls into a new category like a book on a library shelf.

Pope Gregory XIII introduced the Gregorian calendar in 1582 to replace the Julian calendar. We have had 443 years of our current method of measuring the months and days of the year.

When it comes to my Medium writing submissions in 2024, I fell short of my expectations. I could give excuses for sure for all of the miss-steps of 2024. But I do not believe in excuses, I like to look the tiger in the…
