I used to grumble about the slow Medium publications.

Why is the editor taking so long to review my piece?

The waiting, anticipation, and silence felt like an eternity.

Now I’m on the other side of the fence.

Curating, editing, and publishing is a lot of work, especially when it’s not a full-time gig or the primary side gig!

Yeah, I’m busy.

As our EduCreate community grows and submissions increase, I understand now why the publication process can be slow.

So with this growth comes change, and it’s vital we adapt to continue providing the support and platform you deserve.

I want to let you know how we will handle publishing going forward.

As always, though, we are open to feedback.

Changes in Publishing Schedule

EduCreate has two editors: myself and Alex Baidun. Alex has been a great help, but we need to organize the process so Alex doesn’t go insane! 😆

We’re implementing a new publishing schedule. Before, we checked for new stories and published as fast as possible. Now we’re transitioning from instant to scheduled releases.

Alex and I will review submissions twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays.

  • This plan will allow us to invest enough time and resources to thoroughly review and curate every submission.
  • This will improve the quality of our published pieces, ensuring alignment with our high Medium’s quality standards.
  • This will also make sure we don’t get burnt out or feel obligated to be on Medium every day.

This doesn’t mean all pieces will be published on Monday and Friday. We’ll schedule accepted pieces to be published throughout the week, so readers get a sprinkle instead of a flood.

This means we’re also extending the revision timeframe for your pieces.

  • If we request changes or have suggestions, you’ll have until the next review day to work on your draft.
  • We believe this provides enough time for you to refine your work to best represent you and align with Medium’s quality guidelines.

This means we’ll be more picky. Our goal is to encourage educators to share knowledge online, not to be gatekeepers. But we still want to uphold Medium standards. When that happens, we’ll give you time to make changes or get help.

Boost Machine & AI Feedback

We understand the challenges of crafting a compelling Medium piece, especially if you want to get that much-coveted boost.

Medium’s Boost Program highlights exceptional content on the platform. It seeks out stories with high-quality writing, original insights, and compelling narratives to offer them increased visibility.

Participation in the Boost Program can happen through self-nomination or selection by Medium’s curators or affiliated publications. Once a story is “boosted,” it benefits from enhanced distribution, making it more likely to be discovered by a wider audience.

This enriches the reader’s experience on Medium and provides writers with a valuable opportunity to grow their following and engagement.

We’ve had great success boosting Creator Classroom members.

This month, we’ve boosted 14 articles from our publication!

But it’s difficult to help writers in the Medium ecosystem, which is why I’ve created a free community called The Creator Classroom.

To aid in this endeavor, we are launching a Boost Machine channel in the Creator Classroom.

  • You’ll need to submit your drafts to this channel for feedback.
  • Initially, you will receive AI feedback on your draft, then you can make changes. Once done, feel free to tag Alex or me for further insights.
  • You can find more detailed instructions in the community space.

We believe this will optimize your medium pieces before they go live, creating a better reading experience for users and increasing the likelihood of getting boosted.

Meetups

I’ve been updating our community space and am looking forward to trying Creator Meetups, either monthly or biweekly, depending on the response.

Our first will be Wednesday, February 28 at 10am EST.

Because our group is global, it is hard to match time zones, we’ll try different days and times.

These meetups are an opportunity to discuss our Medium experiences. I’ll answer questions and we can have webinars or guest speakers once we have our schedule.

These events are only open to Creator Classroom members.

➡️ Join for free here.

Please share your thoughts on the changes in our community. We’re open to feedback and willing to adapt!
