You Wouldn't Believe What Students Say in a Public School
However, trauma is the root of the problem
Below is a brief excerpt or dramatization based on a situation that occurred in my classroom a few weeks ago. I want to give a real glimpse into what can happen in a modern classroom. The disrespect is often not personal but due to other issues in that students life.
She walked into in-school suspension with an attitude.
“How are you today, Ms. Townsend?” I asked.
“Don’t call me by my damn last name.”
I stared at her for a brief moment.
“Ok, Jehrico, but you don’t talk to me like that. Respect is what I require in In-School.”
“Man, whatever, get off my ass. And shut up talking to me.”
“I think you need to calm down. Go and sit in seat number 10. It’s a nice corner office for you to be by yourself.”
She looked at me, grunted, and stalked to the seat I assigned her.
I dealt with Jehrico before and knew how she responded when pushed, so the corner seat was the best for her.
I worked with other kids while she cooled off.
Once I had all my “Angels” in their seat and quiet, I went over to her.
