We all know how much easier it is to process a large amount of complicated data when it is presented in a more visually-appealing way.

Political polls, financial figures, weather predictions.

They’re all so much easier to understand once you put the data into a well-designed map or infographic. When it comes to public opinion, presenting what millions of individuals think about a certain topic would be impossible without these kinds of visualisations:

Unless you’re a serious data-whizz, a spreadsheet with all of the information above would tell you absolutely nothing, let alone point out these important trends.

Luckily, just a quick glance at these maps opens your eyes to some interesting insights.

Visualising the status of an entire school

Imagine you had a similar “map” to help identify trends among students and teachers in your school. What would it look like?

The Edurio Results Matrix: our take on representing stakeholder opinion in education in a way that helps school leaders get a quick picture of how their schools are doing.

Asking each student and teacher in a school — or across a number of schools — for feedback about their personal experiences and opinions is of great value to those charged with making decisions on their behalf. Sifting through hundreds or thousands of survey responses, however, is a daunting task and unlikely to get done in time.

So… what could you do with an easy visual representation of student feedback?

1. Start working on problem areas with targeted professional development for the whole staff

2. Offer support where teachers really need it

4. Dive deeper into results where you need more details

5. Congratulate everyone on successes

6. Prepare presentations or reports with the exact information you need

Whether you only have five minutes to scan over the matrix and identify “hotspots” or hours to explore the details of each question — it’s a valuable resource for any school leader who wants to have a better understanding of what is going on in every classroom.
