Mathematical model for predicting the spread of COVID-19

The first predictive model published in Russia that describes all the “peaks” and “waves” with a high degree of accuracy due to the interval approach, and in all regions where the situation develops completely differently.

The model was developed by order of the Ministry of Health. It was modified and went beyond only the epidemiological one as a result of cooperation with the Smorodintsev Research Institute of Influenza of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. No other country has proposed such a variable model to describe the long-term prediction yet.

Effects:

  1. Scientific and technical effect: novelty. Mathematical modeling of the spread of COVID-19 is the first stage in solving the problems of predictive mathematical modeling of multidisciplinary processes in complex socio-economic systems;
  2. Scientific and technical effect: usefulness. The new methodology and software tools for mathematical modeling and predicting are aimed at increasing the socio-economic system stability to epidemiological shocks;
  3. Economic effect. The project confirmed the effectiveness of using the system engineering and digital modeling to reduce the development and implementation of new high-tech software systems, diminish labor intensity and increase efficiency in building predictive estimates of the COVID-19 spread rate in the regions;
  4. Socio-economic effect. The project is aimed at assessing the necessary resources of the health system in case of negative scenarios of the pandemic development as a basis for making management decisions in certain sectors of the Russian economy in the regions.

Digital PGA (power grid area)

The world’s first comprehensive project in the electric power industry, based on a change in the industry business model, which includes using new technologies, making changes in the organizational model of the network company and the regulatory framework, as well as training of new specialists.

A new ideology for building a distribution network has been developed within the project. A unique platform for testing alternative scenarios for the development and management of critical infrastructure was created and the basis for advancing the development of power grids with fundamentally different properties (reliability, quality, electrical energy availability) with no increase in tariff for consumers was formed on the territory of one of the republics.

Effects:

The application of the Digital PGA project will allow changing the critically worn-out assets of the power grid and obtaining fundamentally different effects on the reliability, quality and availability of power supply. Digital network counterparts and new technologies integrated into the power grid make it much cheaper to solve the issue of improving reliability, and the funds that can be saved are spent on upgrading critically worn-out assets without increasing the tariff burden on the consumers.
