Agriculture is the most “Healthful”, most “Useful” and most “Noble” employment of “MAN”.

- GEORGE WASHINGTON

Agriculture and India share a unique bond. From the sunny wheat-laden farms of Punjab to the windy rice paddy fields of Tamil- Nadu, this bond and the land of India aided agriculture to flourish in India from time immemorial. In fact, farming is the foundation on which the indian subcontinents are able to give birth to its rich civilisations.

Then why the agriculture in India is in the phase of almost end?

I tried to dig up the information and mindsets made on agriculture, of the future of India (youth). Everyone had a different answer to the same question but the same point of view.

-The upcoming generation of India, mainly the north- India is attracted towards the jobs and relaxing life in the cities, either in India or in the foreign countries. So the farmers who are aged and have children with dreams of cities are forced to sell their land or stop farming and start with a business.

- Alisha and Jeewan (employees at Eduwaive foundation)

- There is no support of government and lack of technology, this period is of Artificial Intelligence and technologies but farmers of punjab and haryana have lack of technical knowledge and lack of policy support, so people are moving in the big cities or foreign.

- Rudramuni Swamy HM(intern at Eduwaive foundation)

- In north side mainly, the input on farms are and the output is less. People in India are not willing to do the hard work with zero output, so youth is shifting towards foreign countries.

- Harsh wardhan and Arsh(interns)

So, concluding all the statements, the main reason behind the problem is EDUCATION, DISCRIMINATION, UNEMPLOYMENT. The government of india has to focus on it, yes! But already there are so many schemes for farmers, still farmers are not satisfied, still farmers are under the pressure of loans, still farmers are choosing the path of suicide.

WHY?

The only way to get the solution of any problem is to research more and more, gather more and more information. So do I.

I started interacting with the people living in western areas who moved from INDIA, guess how?

“BY SELLING THEIR LANDS” .

So let’s gather the words, from very base to the end.

India is divided into states in which north India has the scarcity of water comparatively more than the south or west side, and north area has the much more fertile land mainly in Punjab and Haryana. The ratio of people from Punjab and Haryana moving towards western countries is not in hundreds but thousands every month. Let’s see why! by taking examples.

“There are countries that have immigration policies that you can settle through buying agricultural land there,” explains Khushwant Singh, a farmer from Hoshiarpur.

“I think the situation in Punjab is deteriorating in terms of law and living standards, so people are looking for a better lifestyle and a more dignified life abroad.”

As a punjabi, I was curious to know about the agriculture field in punjab so i visited “karhali” it is a small village near “patiala”where the farmers are in diversity. Some have small lands but large outputs ,some have large lands but small outputs and some are there who are struggling with their own lands and outputs

I noticed that there are the families who are living happily without land and farming or any business, i was shocked! Tried to reach them, and ask them how do they actually survive?

My father is in canada from the last 6 years, and now he is here with us, i am so happy.”

-Sanamdeep kaur(10 years old daughter of a farmer living in canada)

I reached his father, curious to know how does he manage to live in Canada alone and feeding his family in India?

We had a vast discussion about the farming methods, policies, culture, religion and many more. Guess what? Not only with shabnam’s father but 5 more farmers who were there in punjab for the non-verbal rally based on 1984 riots on 6 june 2018. This date itself has so much pain in it, that every PUNJABI will be sad hearing this date, they will have flashbacks, what happened 34 years ago “OPERATION BLUE STAR”

And I was so shocked to see that the farmers who have acres of lands are in this rally in majority demanding for KHALISTAN.

WHY?

My first question was : WHY ARE YOU LIVING IN CANADA,AUSTRALIA,NEW ZEALAND, IF YOU HAVE ACRES OF LAND IN PUNJAB?

Answer : “Why did you complete your high school studies in international school, if you have so many govt. Schools in punjab?”

This question made me realize the difference between the countries.

“IF WE SPEND 1 LAKH ON PUNJAB’S FIELD, WE WILL MERELY GET THE OUTPUT OF 50–60 THOUSAND”

  • GURBACHAN SINGH(Happily living in canada, father of shabnam )

“It is not only about the outputs, it is about respect, honor, which we do not expect from India , we lived in India, we love our nation, but not the nationalists. We are powerless in India, but we have all the power in foreign, we feed them, they respect us, this is the truth of the government of canada. ”

  • HARPAL SINGH(farmer in canada)

Question 2: WHAT IS THE MAIN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE FARMING METHODS IN FOREIGN AND IN INDIA?

Answer: “The main thing is here if have tomatoes on 3 acre land, we have to give it to the wholesalers at a cheap price with just 5% profit and then they sell it to the markets with minimum 20% profit just because they have the direct contact with the buyers and we are still struggling with the land and many other costs. In canada or any other country we have direct contact with the consumers or buyers and we are the one who produce it as well as sell it in which all profit is ours ”

-Satwant singh(America )

So there are no wholesalers in other countries? (I asked)

There are but they are not the ones who are in charge, we are, the wholesalers have link with the malls, dollar stores and many other stores who stock the product, so they sell it to them from us but now we are also having direct contact with the mall keeper, and many of them buy the stock from us, in every aspect we have the power, we are able to survive without any loans or anything that happen in India”

- Pritam singh(farmer in America)

Question 3: STUBBLE BURNING IS ONE OF THE MAIN problems PRESENTLY IN INDIA, BECAUSE OF WHICH THE POLUTION IS AT IT’S BEST MAINLY IN PUNJAB AND HARYANA, SO WHAT DO THE FARMERS DO WITH THE STUBBLE LEFT BEHIND OR UNWANTED MATERIAL WE CAN SAY?

Answer : “They are not unwanted, god has never created anything on earth which is unwanted. It is our mentality who marks the things as wanted and unwanted. In America the farmers have the technologies and they have the people or companies to buy the stubble because stubble has Phosphorus, potassium, sulphur which are used in fertilizers or these components are used to grow the mushrooms as well. The stubble, no doubt takes time because it is kind of stubborn but we make a lot of money out of it, either by selling it to the companies or the government storage sectors or by mulching it into the soil to increase the contents of PNK and some people try to grow mushrooms out of it and this all process is under nutrition management system of AMERICA, so it is not any trouble for us, here it is, we have our farms here and we practice contract farming, when there is a season of harvesting we do have a visit at that time to make sure the inputs should be minimum because here we have problem of technologies as well as policies by government so there is a challan burning the stubble, but what to do with that? Does government has any idea about that? No, there is no plan for that, now we are aware of everything and we try to make nutritious compounds out of stubble or we mix it with the soil and grow some edible flower which takes 2–3 weeks to grow by that time the nutrients in soil for wheat are ready and the season for wheat comes, we just start growing wheat”

Question -4 HOW ARE YOU AWARE OF THESE THINGS? DOES THE GOVERNMENT OVER THERE HELP YOU WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND SUPPORT YOU FOR TECHNOLOGY?

ANSWER: “We have weekly sessions with the organisations in the farmer sector office where the doctors, engineers and the farmers visit, they tell us about the technology which can save our time so we love going there and learn new things for our crops and apply it on India’s land also”

Question:5 HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO MEET UP THE COST LEVEL? ARE YOU MAKING THAT MUCH MONEY, THAT YOU CAN BUY THE MACHINES YOURSELF WITH THE LABOUR COST INCLUDED?

Answer “Government provide us the funds or loans for every purpose, condition behind, we have to give notice to the association ,writing the actual problem being faced so that they can decide whether to give or not, these problems are mentioned in the farming document so that government can bring up the solutions for the problems.”

“ Teacher- Who educate everyone, Farmers- Who feed everyone and the Youth- Who will rule on everyone in the future, the country who does not respect these three groups is pacing towards its own end”

After this interaction, I realized that the Indian government has to improve a ;lot to get back everyone’s heart and unity, if the tradition goes like this, India will definitely be facing the consequences in some years.

If we have a look on the data of GDP and SPI of all the countries, India and China are on the least when it comes to social progress index. The natives are the one who has to rule the nation,if we are not maintaining the natives properly, it means the ruler is near to its end.People demanding for KHALISTAN are very clear about their views and motives, if once the majority stood against the government and khalistan build up, then India will have its downfall again, because khalistan is the demand for the Sikhs from all over the world who think they are being manipulated by the government and the policies of it, these things have to be solved immediately . The government has to take the actions for the rights of the farmers in punjab and haryana. The farming methods has to be built with advanced technology .

Government has to take all the steps wisely because presently we are having lots of problems like;

  1. Pollution

2.Water scarcity

3.Social mis-happenings

4.Poverty

5.Terrorism

6.Illiteracy

Taking care of all the problems, agriculture is the field with diversity in it, so it is really important to provoke government to work harder and let the hypocrisy leave behind and work for all the problems.
