No one likes a jerk, but sometimes when we’re sucked into the void of the Internet, we forget how important our online presence is, which is an extension of our offline presence.

You wouldn’t like it if someone borrows your pen and returns it with the cap all chewed up right? Same thing applies online, you wouldn’t like it if someone disrespects your post like how they disrespected your pen.

Net Etiquette, exactly like what is sounds like, internet etiquette. Here’s the dictionary definition:

No one wants to be a jerk (at least, most people don’t) so here’s some tips from WEBROOT as well as some that I think that are worth keeping in mind!

  • Always remember your actions will always affect someone either positively or negatively. Let’s try to keep it positive.

  • Apply the same standards and values you have offline, online. Be kind and respect people’s voices and rights. The Internet isn’t separated from reality! It is an extension of our society. So watch what you do and what you say because whatever you say will always come back to you!

  • Online theft is still theft, cyber bullying is still abuse, online harassment is still harassment, etc. There are laws protecting the rights of every citizen, and that also includes protection online as well.

  • Speaking of theft, credit that person’s photo you used or that quote that inspired you. It’s not cool to take someone else’s credit.

  • Be understanding! Not everyone has the same beliefs because of religion, culture, etc. so accept that everyones values are different and try to understand from their point of view.

All in all, respect each other and let’s remember out Netiquette!
