EIT InnoEnergy and GROUPE IDEC (IDEC), a global real estate group, have signed a memorandum of understanding to accelerate and decarbonize sustainably built environment projects. GROUPE IDEC has become a shareholder of EIT InnoEnergy.

EIT InnoEnergy is the innovation engine for sustainable energy across Europe supported by the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union.

The commitment illustrates IDEC’s ambition to put the energy transition and sustainability at the heart of its real estate developmentscreating energy-efficient real estate schemes through engaging with EIT InnoEnergy’s extensive ecosystem of more than 300+ portfolio companies.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) has formed a central thread of IDEC’s strategy with the group having already built 6.5MW of capacity, and another 5.5MW under construction. In addition, as part of the strategic partnership and wider commitment to building a more sustainable future, IDEC, and EIT InnoEnergy will analyze the viability of an Energy Campus in Europe to educate and train energy executives by the end of Q1 2022.

“IDEC GROUP’s entry into EIT InnoEnergy as a shareholder is in line with our desire to promote a development towards a more sustainable, social and societal approach to projects we carry out in collaboration with our clients. This relationship strengthens an already successful collaboration with EIT InnoEnergy, with several significant projects already completed, and many more will come. It will also help us offer increasingly innovative solutions to our customers and support the development of new real estate or technological projects and innovative companies.Patrice LAFARGUE, Chairman and Founder of the IDEC GROUP

EIT InnoEnergy will leverage IDEC’s real estate under management and 900 hectares of European land ownership to support its portfolio, establishing new bases and manufacturing facilities including permitting, design and engineering, and construction to fast-track European renewable energy expansion.

IDEC is already actively engaging with EIT InnoEnergy’s portfolio including sourcing the French site for the new lithium-ion battery manufacturing factory for Verkor as well as building strategic partnerships with French hydrogen refueling station provider, Atawey and Sylfen, a French integrated energy production and storage solutions provider for buildings innovations.

With buildings generating nearly 40% of annual global CO2 emissions, the built environment has a huge role to play in the sustainable transformation of our world. IDEC’s visionary position puts it at the forefront of the energy transition in real estate and together we can make a genuine impact not only on how real estate becomes more energy efficient but also on how land and facilities are used to support the acceleration of sustainable energy technologies across Europe. By anchoring itself in our ecosystem of 500+ partners and our shareholders, IDEC has access to an unrivaled mix of energy and industrial players, research, and academic institutions to de-risk its business growth and accelerate the scale-up of our portfolio”.
