My name is Julia Castro Gómez and I am a 26-year-old girl who came to Washington, D.C. less than a month ago — along with 49 other Sonorans — thanks to the Sonorenses 100 program, created by the Secretary of Education and Culture of the State of Sonora in Mexico. For seven years I have dedicated myself to promoting freedom of expression through art through the OAFLE Art Foundation; helping prevent suicide through reading using my “Letters from Julia” blog; and to providing personal assistance to the many that reach out asking for help after reading my phrases and stories.

In the coming weeks I have a new challenge: tell the stories of my Latin American immigrant brothers and sisters who came to the United States in search of a dream, opportunities for a better life for themselves and their families, or fleeing from violence, and natural disasters that have touched our hemisphere. I will write 13 stories of Latinos with different dreams, goals, who crossed the border risking everything to reach a country where life experiences, challenges, and obstacles are not always told or shared.

My goal is to break boundaries through these stories, and unite people regardless of their nationality. And to add a personal touch, we ask college students from Mexico, Central America, Colombia, and Puerto Rico, to contact us and write your thoughts about each entry that we will publish weekly. It is important that we are aware of the experiences of our brothers and sisters in the United States, and to begin to tell these stories, put ourselves in their shoes, and build a network of support, empathy, and solidarity with them.

I also want you to tell us what you propose to solve the current problems we are facing. The best essays will be published in the blogs of ProsperoLatino and mine. This will not only help get your name out there and increase your visibility, but will also give you an opportunity to collaborate with international initiatives, and creating a support network for the Latino community.

If you are interested in working with one of the most important strategic communication firms in Washington D.C, Miami, and Sonora, then you have to follow @ProsperoLatino and @JuliaCastroG on your favorite social networks, and follow these steps:

Step 1. Follow us on social media and read our stories.

Step 2. Share your thoughts through an essay.

Step 3. Send your essay to: julia@prosperolatino.com.

Step 4. The best story will be published! Three lucky students will be given special mention, and you will also represent your university. We also respect the author’s rights and the name of the author will be mentioned in the article that will get published.
