Phone, wallet, keys, helmet, backpack. The butt goes on the seat. The feet to the pedals.

– First day of College. Let’s go, Bulls!

– Be safe, Norm. Don’t ride too fast to college!

– Ooookay, Mom… — Norm rolled his eyes. His mom laughed softly and gave him a strong, gentle hug.

Norm knew the way to school. He studied maps online, looked at photos of his alma matter-to-be.

He even left 45 minutes before the bell rang. His ride would take only 20 minutes.

The young freshman had prepared for every scenario, except for one: Construction and disrepair on the highways.

The young man gained good speed. Cars flew by next to him. Trucks honked, and cars would rev the engine as they passed by.

Norm was able to keep himself safe by riding on the sidewalks and the few bike lanes in his town.

The teen fantasized about new friends and outstanding grades. He studied so hard to get into such a prestigious institution. At least, the best one in his home State. He got a full ride.

Daydreaming got in his way, though. It took him 10 minutes to miss his left turn. He realized quickly, though.

It took him 5 minutes to get back on track. He waited for the light. Crossed the…
