“The Homeless”

Brad was twenty five years old and was a very hard working man. He worked as a constructor in Malibu. Everyday he was able to see the beach and all families spending time together. Brad migrated to the United States for a better future for him and his family. He migrated first and then brought his family. He worked Monday through Saturday in order to provide food for his family.

He wasn’t able to spend time with his two kids the baby Ruby and his three year old Frankie because they needed money. He was able to see his kids at night, while they were sleeping and in the morning when they were still sleeping.

One day baby Ruby got very sick. His wife Serenity took Ruby to the hospital, so she can get checked. The other three year old kid Frankie had to follow along because there was no one to keep an eye on him.

On the way to the hospital Serenity called Brad explaining how they were heading to the hospital because the Ruby wasn’t feeling good. Brad knew his priority was his family. He kept thinking, thinking, and thinking about what he should do. Brad was working and he didn’t speak english. He didn’t know how to explain to his boss that this is an emergency and he had to go. He stood for twenty minutes thinking if he should leave or stay. He decided to leave his job. He didn’t tell anyone about leaving.

Brad ran to the bus stop and waited for the bus to come. An hour later he arrived to the hospital, he was now with his family waiting for some news about Ruby. Doctors didn’t know what Ruby had. The baby Ruby had to stay in the hospital for three days to observe him.

Suddenly Brad felt his phone ringing. He looked at his phone and saw that it was his boss. He answered and didn’t understand what his boss said because he didn’t understand english. They both didn’t understand what they were saying but continued the conversation. Brad tried to explain to his boss why he had to leave from work but he didn’t know how to say it in english.

At the end Brad told his boss,”mi no coming tres days”.

The boss didn’t understand what he was trying to say. All the boss said is,“Okay see you tomorrow.”

It was the next day and Brad was still in the hospital. He was really worried about his Ruby. Will she get better or worse? Brad was just praying to god that everything comes out good and the baby to get better.

Serenity insisted me to go to work but I wanted to be there for my family. Four hours later the doctor told me the baby had woken up and was getting better.

The doctor said,”The baby had an infection on her stomach.” The doctor mentioned that the baby had to stay for four hours to observe her. They agreed to stay another four hours.

Brad’s boss called and said, “Where are you, you are supposed to come today”. Brad doesn’t understand and says,”mi tomorrow coming”. Brad was very intelligent, he’s been trying to learn english and tries his best to have a conversation. The conversation ended.

Brad went to buy something to eat for Serenity and his three year old Frankie. They had only spent two days at the hospital. Ruby finally got better and was able to go home. Before leaving they had to do some paperwork that took another hour. They were finally done and were able to go home. As a family they walked together to get the bus that will take them home.

The next day he had to go to work. He was sad because Ruby was going through hard times. Ruby was Brad’s motivation to work even harder to provide them with food and a roof to live. When Brad arrived to work he started working as usual.

He later called Serenity to ask about Ruby, how is she doing. Later that day he called again to ask how the baby is doing. The boss caught him talking on the phone. The boss spoke to Brad that he had missed two days, was caught talking on the phone and how he wasn’t doing his job.

The boss told Brad that he was fired and to come back for his check on Tuesday. Brad didn’t understand but there was someone translating for Brad. Brad tried to explain why he didn’t come, it was because of an emergency. The boss didn’t want to hear any explanation and told him to leave. Brad left and was very depressed because he had to pay the rent, bills of the hospital and needed food for his children. Brad didn’t want to go home yet with bad news.

He decided to go and look for another job because he couldn’t leave his family without a roof top. He wasn’t able to find any job so he went home and acted as if everything was okay.

Serenity told him, “how was work”?

Brad responded with, “it was good, it was a pretty easy day”.

Brad didn’t sound good he sounded really sad. When Brad was alone he spoke to himself, “Why is this happening to me? I’m just trying to work hard so my family can have a better future,” Brad, the children and Serenity sat to eat and Serenity told Brad, “The bill of the hospital got here.” Brad didn’t know what to say, he looked at the bill and his heart dropped, telling himself “why is this happening? I don’t deserve this.”

The next day he woke up in the morning as usual and acted like he was going to work and instead went to look for jobs. He spent the whole day and he couldn’t find anything. Brad wasn’t able to take it anymore. When he got home he had to tell Serenity he got fired because he didn’t go to work. Serenity started crying and was very sad because she didn’t know what was coming next.

She told Brad she was going to start looking for jobs as well. It was the next week and still couldn’t find a job. Brad had to go to his old job and get his last check. He went and still tried to explain the boss but he wouldn’t understand. Brad kneeled down and begged him to give him another chance. The boss refused to hear Brad. Brad left and he went home.

Two hours later the manager was knocking on the door, asking for the money of the rent. Brad was really frustrated because he had to give the last cents he had in order to have a roof for his children’s. Serenity and Brad tried to overcome that challenge, but everything was falling apart. No job, no money and soon it was going to be no house, and no food. The food was running out and both Serenity and Brad had to starve in order to give food to their children.

It was already next month and they didn’t know anyone to help them out. The manager came again for the rent and they didn’t have money to pay. The day has come where they had to live in those dirty streets. All Brad and Serenity saw where trash everywhere bottles, cars full of trashed. Serenity and Brad saw how their belongings were thrown out from the house. With tears they picked their belongings and put it aside. They both tried to build a little house around the corner of their house by using blankets and items they had in their house. They felt that cold wind pass by them. They saw people with ripped and dirty clothes, dirty hands.There was no clean spot with no trash. The baby Ruby kept crying because she wanted to eat but there was no money. Frankie just stood there thinking about how they were going to sleep. Brad was going crazy because he didn’t know what to do.
