The Impact
Cheerful, smiling, and laughter, perfect words to describe Samantha. Samantha has always been a happy child, even if she only has her mother along her side. All her happiness, success, and her well being is all due to her mother, Marie. Marie has been a single mother, she has put all of her work and effort in making her daughter happy and raising a child all on her own, having long days from school to work and coming home to all the responsibilities of a loving and caring mother. Marie has worked in a hospital, and has learned that there are many people in need, and has shown that reality to Samantha. Marie and Samantha are very excited to begin a toy drive for the children in the hospital but first Samantha has to attend her last day of class and then continue on in collecting toys and organizing for this toy drive.
It is 6:30 am, the alarm rings, Samantha rolls over her bed to turn that ugly sound off, as she would call it. Laying there, looking into the ceiling contemplating whether to stay in for a few more minutes and wait for her mother to come in or just get up. But with all her excitement ready for the last day of school and to begin to help her mother with her toy drive, she gets up, walks to her closet, she begins to dig for her clothes. One clothing after another, tossing up side to side, she finds her uniform, while leaving a small pile of clothes thrown almost everywhere in the room. But mostly all piled up on the bed. Classical room for a ten year old. Her mother walks by the room, her eyes towards her bed making sure she is up, but her eyes run through the piles of clothes that she sees thrown everywhere. “Samantha!”the mother yells. She turns around slowly and with a cute little angel face, her eyes moving towards her mother, “ Yes mamma,” she replies. Looking all innocent as if she has done nothing bad and with a face no mother can resist. “You get me every time with that face of yours, but please darling pick up your mess come and eat breakfast and then we need to go.” her mother states. “ I will get right to it mamma!”replies Samantha, smiling because she knows that her little face she makes, works every time, not to get in trouble.
They both get through their morning routines, and get out the door, rushing out the door, like the speed of light. On the drive to school Samantha is in the back seat of the car reading a book that has all her attention, while her mother is sitting down in traffic.Traffic at this hour is crazy everyone is trying to rush to get to their destinations, including drivers that drive like crazy and do not think of their consequences. Just like a man who has been waiting impatiently on the other side of Samantha and her mother. He has been moving from one lane to another, trying to get pass by as many cars as he can but all he is causing is more angry drivers, by swerving around like crazy about to cause an accident at any given time if he keeps driving like that.
At the same time, Samantha's mother Marie, was about to give a right turn, only two blocks away from dropping Samantha off at school. When all of the sudden as she is turning, the car with the man that was driving like crazy comes towards them going at a faster speed than he should, trying to make the red light, while the green arrow light turns on for Marie to turn. He begins to notice that he is about to cause an accident and initiates the breaks, and all you could hear was the screeching from the wheels, of him trying to stop. Even though he did begin to break he was not able to break on time and impacts the car, the car Samantha and her mother were in.
From the perspective of Samantha’s mother, all she saw was a car headed towards them, many emotions ran through her head, but mostly all she was thinking about was Samantha. She tries\d to reach for her and screamed, “ Samantha grab on! Don’t let go honey!” She had held onto Samantha as tight as she could. The impact was hard, but the major impact was towards the driver’s seat where Samantha’s mother was badly injured. Samantha had gone into shock, everything had happened so fast, all she heard were sirens, screams, and a picture of a car that had the roof on the ground and the wheels were up in the sky. Ambulances rushed them to the hospital and luckily Samantha only suffered small injuries, but her mother had to have surgery.
Samantha was in a hospital room where nurses rushed back and forth, and questions being asked to her one after the other. All she wanted was to see her mother, she went into a panic when she heard a nurse saying that her mother was in a bad condition. Being alone and only having her other she exploded in tears and screams, yelling, “ mamma! I need you, where are you?”
She had to be placed to sleep to control her, and as she had begun to wake up again everything that had happened came to her all over in a flash. Although, as she turned her head slowly there was her mother right by her side waiting for her to wake up. She grabbed her hand crying and with a smile, Marie turns, “ We will get through this together.” she says. “ Yes mamma,” Samantha replies.
