Misinformation online has become a problem with having to understand and learn to know what is real and what isn’t in terms of what you are hearing or reading. Having to figure out what out there is reliable and what is not can lead to this idea of misinformation. So what is misinformation? Misinformation is inaccurate information that is out there, and can even be sometimes intended to tell people the wrong thing on purpose. Yet knowing there is all this false information out there, how can we protect ourselves? First understand when on the internet what is reliable sources and what is not is one way. This means when you are looking up information, finding sources that are scholarly or even ones with heavy credibility can help differentiate sources that are trustworthy from ones that are not. Another thing that one can do when not knowing if their source is credible is looking up if that platform is a credible source or not. There are many websites that don’t require if your information that you are posting is correct or not. There are on the other hand platforms that do. These are always good to go to to find information that is reliable.

Misinformation can lead to many problems. Many people in today’s day in age, don’t really look into the information that they are reading or seeing. Most just tend to believe or just take the first thing they see and don’t do much research about it. This can be damaging because not everything you hear and see is close to true. Having ways to prevent people from falling into the trap of trusting just any random information can be beneficial because it can help not lead to the idea of just believing everything. I believe it is important to understand and find out what is true and what is not before just saying something that is inaccurate.
