Understanding More Than One Side Of Media

Is what we read and what we hear always true? In today’s society we have the issue of thinking that what we see and hear first is typically always correct. I can say even for myself sometimes what I see first, I can tend to think is correct. When understanding that sometimes the first thing you see isn’t going to be correct is sometimes hard to understand. When looking at the idea in terms of politics, this has become something that has led to a greater divide between the left and the right. Politics in the media can be very one sided. In class we were able to get a deeper look into the platforms and where they land in terms of how one sided they are and how reliable that source is. Knowing what is either more right winged or what is more left winged can impact how one can think. Finding the sources that are more centered in terms of how they go about specific topics can hopefully one day try and help close the massive gap we are going towards in terms of how people think.

This leads me into the idea of why we are so separated. People are so naive to the idea that there are other ways to think sometimes. Myself included, I can be said as part of this problem. Whether it is reading an article, scrolling on TikTok, or looking on instagram, when I see something that I don’t agree with, whether it be true or not I tend to just scroll passed it. Having this thought in our heads heads that what we think is usually always correct has become such an issue. Politics have really taken this idea to a new level. We have become so obsessed with this idea that whatever we see or hear about our political party is always correct. Sometimes even forgetting to fact check it. I think as a society, we need to start to learn and understand it’s ok to do research about what you are hearing in the news to make sure it is correct. Even maybe switching what we are listening to, to learn what is not only correct but what is the most straight to the point response. Politics have made society today go against one another, so hopefully one day we can come together rather than be so divided.
