“I Honestly Love this Book”

This week was filled to the brim with lessons. Not sure why we’re being so blessed, but teaching is the best part about missionary work, so I’m not complaining.

One of our lessons was with someone we’ve been teaching for a couple months. He’s been reading through the Book of Mormon, and he’s now somewhere in Alma. When we asked him about what the Book of Mormon means to him, he got a little emotional, and said “I honestly love this book. I carry it with me wherever I go and it gives me a sense of security and peace.” It was humbling to hear the heartfelt testimony of a person who’s putting forward his faith and seeing how reading the Book of Mormon has blessed him. When you talk about the Book of Mormon to those who aren’t members of the Church, do you say “I honestly love this book”?

This same person came to church on Sunday and during testimony meeting felt like he should go up and share his testimony. But right before he got up there, a guy in the YSA ward who has Autism started talking about his dog that died a few years ago. It started off okay, but then he whipped out a picture of his dog and started wailing — not even just crying, but wailing — and the Bishop had to help encourage him to wrap it up with his testimony. Needless to say, this threw the person we’re teaching off and he got up there and had to recompose himself for a second. But he gave a beautiful testimony.

We had another meeting down in Vista and thankfully I didn’t spill any queso on the floor of the church building this time.

It’s been a great week! Hopefully my lack of stories is made up by the pictures that I send. Also, I challenge each of you to talk about the Book of Mormon this week and tell people that you “love this book” because of how it’s changed your life. If it hasn’t changed your life, then let it! It’s so important that we gain a testimony of the Book of Mormon sooner rather than later.

Happy Labor Day and see you next week!
