At the completion of the Synergy Alpha test, we made the decision to re-design and re-designate the PowerPod from mere hardware into a scalable data architecture of the same name. With this new development, we transitioned to a hardware agnostic architecture that will allow us to collaborate with different digital metering-solution partners to carry out real-time reading of energy data. One of the first partners in this endeavour is Ampotech.

A Singapore-based start-up, Ampotech has built a very capable low-cost digital meter in the AmpoHub. This compact, wireless meter is easily installable into existing distribution boxes without the need for re-wiring. The flow of energy is read through CT clamps on the relevant circuits and the resulting data is sent over WiFi to our servers for computation in Synergy, our P2P energy trading platform.

We first tested the AmpoHub during our Alpha test and found it to be very reliable. This reliability, along with its price point, made it the most suitable candidate for deployment during our coming Beta test, where we expect to deploy more than 50 units across Singapore to help us facilitate energy tracking. Electrify will also be sharing performance information with Ampotech to possibly co-develop another digital metering device that can be deployed for the mass market.

AmpoHub; small, yet powerful

“This collaboration is a natural next step in the relationship we have been building with Electrify here in Singapore,” said Ampotech CEO and Co-Founder William Temple. “We share a common perspective on the transformation that is occurring in the utility industry and the need for next-generation metering solutions to support decentralized, customer-facing applications. We look forward to working with Electrify throughout their Beta phase and beyond.”

About Ampotech

Ampotech is a Singapore-based internet-of-things (IoT) company specialising in the collection and analysis of electricity usage data from the built environment. Its products and software provide real-time visibility into power and energy consumption of spaces and equipment at a facility, while offering a simple installation process and hassle-free wireless connectivity. The large-scale, high-resolution data Ampotech provides have been used by companies in commercial real estate, retail and oil & gas to identify energy efficiency improvements, conduct remote asset monitoring, and obtain business insight into operational and activity patterns.

The company launched in 2015 as a spin-off from the Advanced Digital Sciences Center (ADSC), a University of Illinois and A*STAR affiliated research centre that is one of Singapore’s leading information technology research institutes. In early 2019, Ampotech secured a venture investment from electronics-focused fund Silicon Solution Ventures, Enterprise Singapore’s SEEDS Capital, and Indonesian telecommunication & infrastructure firm PT Prasetia Dwidharma to accelerate its growth in the Asia Pacific region.
