What is SaaS

Software as a service (SaaS) is a software distribution model on a subscription basis and is centrally hosted initial investment by the average cash flows.

SaaS differs significantly from traditional on-premise software. The main reason is that the initial investment is usually almost zero: the spending grows as the number of usable stations increases.

Also, SaaS systems are generally paid via subscription instead of through an upfront payment. This approach is the most flexible and affordable even for new entrants in the market. The SaaS pricing strategies are based on the number of stations connected to the system or proceeding from a particular percentage of the operator’s monthly income.

The most famous examples of SaaS are ChargePoint, Monta, Driivz, Ampeco, etc.

How does SaaS work

In a nutshell, SaaS facilitates CPOs to install and manage charge stations and track their capacity.

One of the SaaS perks is that it’s granted on a hosted platform: the administrator (CPO) usually doesn’t even concern about software updates.

The main goals of SaaS are:

  • to bring down the cost and time for deployment,
  • reduce the costs of operation (through savings of scale process),
  • address the risks of operation (the third party handles security and makes sure it gets with the times).

Аnd you won’t have to keep up or replace equipment that goes wrong.

Furthermore, as the CPO grows, the infrastructure can scale readily simultaneously — like a communal enterprise that buys as much electricity as needed but doesn’t have to keep the power station or the delivery means.

From my own experience, I can say that young businesses using SaaS can easily focus on their business expansion and be more productive in their deployment strategy.

The benefits of SaaS

1. Less time to make a profit

Software as a service is distinct from Custom or White label software because it has already been installed and tuned. As a CPO, you benefit as this reduces the time spent on installation and configuration and can decrease the challenges preventing software deployment.

2. Easy-to-follow and maintain

Your customer can do proofs-of-concept and test the software functionality or a new release feature beforehand. Even for large environments, you can use SaaS offerings to verify the software before buying it.

3. Reduced spending

Usually, SaaS can ensure cost savings since it resides in a multi-tenant environment, where the software&hardware license costs are less than a traditional model.

Another pro is that you can promptly expand your user base since SaaS allows small and medium businesses to use software that otherwise they would not use due to the high price of licensing.

It is worth noting that maintenance costs are also reduced since the SaaS provider owns the environment, and it is divided between all customers that use that software solution.

4. Unique upgrades

With the help of SaaS, the CPOs upgrade the solution and make it more user-centric. The spendings and efforts associated with updates are lower than the traditional model that makes you buy an upgrade package and install it.
