Case Study: Myriota | Explainer Video Production

Making an explainer video for your services or products is very common yet very useful approach these days. Online marketing gurus have always highlighted the fact that the average attention span of internet users have limited to only 6 or 7 seconds. So it should not be just about putting some images on the screen. Instead, like a story, which draws the viewers into watching the complete video and then respond to their call to action.
At eLEOPARD Studios, we strive to craft these stories with great care to leave an impact on the audience minds.

First of all, we would like to acknowledge that when Myriota approached us, we got really excited. We were charmed by the fact that their revolutionary technology was going to help millions of industries and people alike. They were in their initial ‘ideation’ and ‘awareness’ phase where they had to educate viewers in the simplest way possible.

Myriota team devised a micro-satellite technology which provides a low-cost
communication of small data. They aimed to help farmers, resource companies, environmental agencies, governments, defense agencies and industries with remote operations.

Challenges

Myriota wanted us to explain their complex looking idea, through a short, simple and concise explainer video. In our early discussions, it was clear that the purpose of the video should be simple and to the point- how they work and are going to help others. They wanted to pitch the video to investors as well as the daily users. It was going to their landing page.

Our Solution

Keeping all the above challenges in mind, we started very carefully with the production process. We started carefully with our 3 points approach, from the research phase to pre-production to final development of the video.

Research and concept designing

An explainer video production pipeline involves these crucial steps:

1. Script
2. Storyboard
3. Voiceover
4. Illustrations
5. Animation
6. Music and SFX

1. Script

The script was itself a hit. It covered all the points in proper sequence like an attention-grabbing first 7 seconds of the problem statements, the introduction of Myriota and how they are solving those problems. Then comes their features and USP with a detailed explanation of their working process.
And lastly, a tagline with the call to action.

2. Storyboard

A storyboard is the set of rough sketches of key drawings and transitions from the script. It visualizes an initial insight into the flow of scenes prior to spending the significant amount of time in animation. All these were discussed back and forth with the client until they became fully assured and satisfied with the flow of illustrations.

3. Styleframes and Illustrations

When it comes to the proper look and feel of the video, the thorough research and study of the subject become very crucial. Since Myriota’s target audience range people from all industries and age groups, we made the character set age-neutral. It kept the main focus on the explanation of how Myriota works, rather than judging the characters’ persona. Also, we kept the color palettes a mix of space blue and vibrant colors that went well with the website’s style.

4. Animation and Music/SFX

Once all the illustration were ready, the stage was all set for the motion designers. The story was crafted with slick animations well synchronized with the voiceover. Our policy to share every 25 seconds of animations with the client to review helped us to stay on the right path without straying away and wasting unnecessary time.

Extra Mile and further recommendations

Myriota team was very happy with the results achieved with the final video. Not only they asked us to do further promotional works like working process gifs and infographics, but also they recommended us to Showpony agency and Redhand team in Australia. We created a video for Salisbury city vision video which turned out to be good as well.
But that the story for another time :)
