When was the last time you tried to memorize something in your work? Not a task, not a new concept, but introducing a new vocabulary and a sentence to express your inner voice.
In a digital era like this, we are used to relying on Google to find out the answer for us. We seldom memorize intentionally as early as we step into the professional world with a smartphone in hand. Tasks? We put in the To-Dos. New concept? We write in our Note app, promising to revisit it later but often left forgotten. Everything has been way too convenient, and we eventually leveraged technology over our unlimited brain’s power.
The closest time I firmly memorized something before was my PMP examination 2 years ago. I repeatedly went over the past paper, learning new phrases and theory — and running them in my brain day and night. After 4 hours of the examination sitting in the cold and freezing room, I hit the submit button and walked away with a proud smile.
And ever since then, I did not try to memorize knowledge word-by-word, or it has become more like learning by doing. And when I want to remember something, I take a screenshot or put the reference link into my personal knowledge board…
