Why God Doesn’t Give Us Step-by-Step Instructions

“The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.”” (Genesis 12:1)

In Genesis 12:1, the Lord tells Abraham, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” The phrase that’s easily missed in this sentence is, “I will show you.”

This indicates Abraham wasn’t told exactly where he was going or how he was to get there before he started. God’s guidance would be given along the way.

God gave Abraham a vision of his destination, but He didn’t give him step-by-step directions. This is probably because if God gave us the entire plan at once then we would start following it, instead of Him.

It’s normal to want certainty, to even crave it, but walking in your calling will require faith. Having doubts, concerns, and worries is normal, but the good news is you don’t need to have all of the pieces put together before you begin.
