Meet the Team: Amelie Watt
We’re celebrating today’s cool, Fall🍁 Tuesday with a “Meet the Team” feature about one of our Product Managers, Amelie! p.s. Today is her birthday! 🎂🍾
Where are you from?
Metro Detroit (Pontiac), though I lived in Florida 🌴 when I was growing up for 5 years (between 2000–2005).
What is your favorite thing about your job and/or working at EU?
The people I work with — they’re all super down to earth, inspiring and just overall very cool. 😎
Favorite hangout outside of work?
Somewhere outside — in nature, on the slopes 🏂, in the hammock, on the bike 🚲, near the water, in the backyard, or on the golf course ⛳️.
What are you currently watching on Netflix/Hulu/Standard Tv?
I’ve been watching Homeland over the past few months — I definitely missed the bus on that one, it’s amazing! As for a newer show, I’ve also been watching Ozark.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be and why?
I would learn how to build a house 🏡 — I often think about how it was back in the day when people would build their own houses and I think it’d be cool to learn that skill.
What’s your secret talent that nobody knows about?
I speak Spanish — I lived in Mexico 🇲🇽 for five months in college, and when I went back to visit a few months ago, I picked it back up. Oh — and I guess another thing that shocks people when I tell them….is that I play video games — I don’t know why this is so surprising to people, but it’s a nice time waster :)
Where do you find inspiration?
Pinterest, magazines, Medium articles, local companies I look up to, and even from my friends who are a little further along in their careers.
Pinterest for anything from learning processes for work, to branding and design, to fashion, to home and landscape design, to cooking, and everything in-between.
Magazines — I have a free subscription to BH&G, and it’s my favorite thing of all time.
Medium articles — I’ve found some good ones that are related to work, but the ones that stick out most are totally unrelated to work — but do yourself a favor and follow Kris Gage…she’s one of the most level-headed bloggers I’ve found, and she speaks a lot to relationships — and teaches tips that extend all relationships in life.
Any role models or mentors?
I would say that I have a handful of people in my life, family, friends, and my partner, who push me to grow and explore new ways of thinking. They remind me of my goals, have seen me grow both personally and professionally, and continually bring out the best in me.
If you had to describe yourself as 3 foods what would you choose and why?
Rainbow sprinkles, lemon, and mashed potatoes.
Sprinkles 🎂 — if you know anything about me, you know I have a serious thing with sprinkles…there are good ones and bad ones and…actually we don’t have to get into here…but…I think sprinkles with their many colors are so happy, optimistic, and they have a tendency to bring joy to anyone who eats them. They add a little extra as a topping and, I guess I try to live a life in which I can remain optimistic and joyful no matter the situation.
Lemon 🍋 — shoot — I guess this is kind of similar to the sprinkles — I can’t say I like to be in the spotlight, but I like to be the thing that is eternally helpful and loyal and ties things together. I like to be in the background making everyone else look good.
Mashed potatoes 🥔 — my favorite food of all time because it contains the best ingredients of all time. When I think of mashed potatoes, I think of comfort food, and I like people to feel like they’re at home when they’re with me. I want people to feel safe, listened to, and respected. Since I’ve been the community manager at The Factory, I know people trust me and lean on me.
What would you do for a career if you weren’t doing this?
Something with gardening 🌺/landscape design/interior decorating — I’m really good at getting into a place and making it feel like home.
If you could splurge on one must-have item, what would it be?
A u-turn audio turntable — I’ve literally been eyeing one for over a year now. I can’t wait to hear how amazing my records will sound on a proper record player.
