Meet the Team: Thomas Wilson
This week’s “Meet the Team” feature is all about Thomas, one of our Software Developers from Lowell, MI! Learn more about Thomas below.
What is your favorite thing about your job and/or working at EU?
I love constantly learning new things and applying that learning to build something new or improve on an existing process or thing. 🛠
What would you do for a career if you weren’t doing this?
I’d probably be a photo journalist or counselor. 📸
What are you currently watching on Netflix/Hulu/Standard Tv? Do people still buy cable?
My wife and I are currently watching ER on Hulu. We’ve never paid for cable Tv.
Favorite hangout outside of work?
Other than at home with my family I love to spend time on my bike 🚴 either out on the road or on a singletrack.
Where do you find inspiration?
Most clearly I get inspiration in solitude. When I’m alone in silence my mind is the most focused. That is how I hear God’s still small voice.
Any role models or mentors?
I’ve never been big into role models but there are several people I admire. Of course my faith in Jesus is huge, followed by that I appreciate the philosophy of Bruce Lee, C.S. Lewis, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and Ghandi. And of course my wife has always been my mirror.
If you had to describe yourself as 3 foods what would you choose and why?
1. Cheese as I’ve grown stronger with age. 🧀
2. An onion, because like an Ogre I have layers.
3. Hot sauce 🔥 because while it is never the most important ingredient if it’s not there it always feels like something is missing.
If you could splurge on one must-have item, what would it be?
Even though I already have several, I can always find a new bike to spend money on. I could use a nicer mountain bike so it’d probably be that.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be and why?
I would learn to speak another language fluently. I’ve studied French, Spanish, Japanese, Greek and Hebrew a little over the years but have no mastery of any of them. I believe language is the most important thing in the world because it enables us to work together as people. Without it we couldn’t survive.
What’s your secret talent that nobody knows about?
I could handle a pogo stick for over a hundred straight jumps as a kid. Probably still could if I had a pogo stick. 💯
Check back next Tuesday for another team member spotlight!
