WeChat Pay and Alipay Now Available on Elly POS in the UK
We are thrilled to announce that China’s payment giants WeChat Pay and Alipay are now available on Elly POS.
Thanks to our deal and partnership with an authorised electronic money institution Kitakami, we are now able to provide our UK clients with the possibility to reach the Chinese market via integrated WeChat Pay and Alipay payment options on Elly POS terminals.
At Elly POS, we aim to bring a single payment system solution to our clients by synergizing different payment methods and POS services into one unique payment terminal that can handle all card, crypto, and digital payments. We offer our clients an all-in-one point-of-sale system supporting payments with all major credit cards, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and cryptocurrencies through the GoCrypto platform, and other payment providers. Now, we are adding WeChat Pay and Alipay as additional new payment methods among the many that are already available.
What’s the fuzz around WeChat Pay and Alipay all about?
China is now becoming one of the most cash-less countries globally. Instead of paying with cash, most Chinese consumers choose to make payments on their mobile phones. The most preferred payment method in China is using mobile applications. The most popular are WeChat Pay and Alipay, which are both digital mobile wallets.
WeChat is China’s largest instant messenger combined with a social networking site. WeChat is owned by China’s biggest internet company called Tencent. But WeChat is more than that. It also performs a payment function of a digital wallet, which enables quick payments in physical and online stores. It also allows its users to make fast transfers to other WeChat Pay users. WeChat has evolved into an entire app ecosystem enabling Chinese customers to not only chat in messenger but also view and make payments in one place. WeChat Pay makes it easy and quick to pay with your phone anywhere. It is currently available in 15 countries in Asia, 16 countries in Europe (UK included), the United States of America, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
Alipay, an online and in-app payment option, is a mobile platform founded in 2004 by Alibaba Holding Group. It is very similar to that of the WeChat application. Although Alipay is used primarily in China, it is already widely available around the world, processing payments in online and brick-and-mortar stores.
The most important UK business partnership of the year?
Both WeChat Pay and Alipay are quickly becoming one of the most important payment methods for companies looking to reach Chinese customers, at home and abroad. With the recent expansion of WeChat into the European and the UK market, British business owners will now be able to expand their business opportunities reaching a broader customer base. WeChat’s expansion follows that of Alipay, which has been available on the UK market for over two years now and is integrated with many European banks and accepted in various luxury retail stores.
