I got to tell you, first when i read about it, lot of assumptions went into my head . Immediately IRC screens with their slash commands were the first thing that went thru my head. btw, you read it right, those were my assumptions and not facts — if you are on the same boat, would recommend you to take a look at the new generation of chat bots, they are way different.

Once i got a chance to look at few chat bots, i couldn’t stop thinking about them, why ? what do they solve? simple, as a mobile user

  1. I hate to download so many apps that are pure utilities for the minute. One example of such utility is — I want to check flight status (i’m not a frequent flyer), yeah the app is useful, but you know what, i just want them once in a while. There are so many such utilities, i think we went backwards with apps on mobile in creating isolated islands.
  2. I hate to create registration and login for such utilities — i tend to forget the user-id/profile for such sites and there are too many to track and remember
  3. I definitely don’t want to give my credit card info for every such app in the world , especially if i use the app just for once or twice

I mostly use messaging apps on mobile and I’m comfortable within my messaging app (WhatsApp/messenger), now that a decent set of UI widgets can be made out of them, lot of applications now can shrink-wrap and deliver functionality to my comfort zone. This really is exciting paradigm shift (the one i have been touting for past 3–4 years to happen, i was hoping some one to come up with a browser that simplifies app delivery and voila, thats what has happened via these messaging platforms) and its happening now.

Buckle up folks
