I’m Gen X and I Feel Like the Silent Generation and Boomers Are Going To Outlive Me
I don’t want to feel this way, but I do
My life in the 2020s seems to consist of listening to the steady stream of dire, vaguely apocalyptic statements running through my head, which I can’t say out loud because I know they will make me sound unhinged, whiny, or both.
And this is one of my most frequent inner-monologue statements: “All the Gen Xers are going to be dead and the Silent Generation and the Boomers are just going to keep on living.”
Do all Gen Xers feel this way or is it just me?
I have to look away from celebrity news now
Last week, one of the big entertainment news stories was that Shannen Doherty, actor and star of the 1990s TV program Beverly Hills 90210, had died from cancer at the age of 53.
I thought this was sad in the way celebrity news is often sad, where you feel sorry for the person who has died (especially when they’ve died so young), but you also feel sorry for yourself because that’s another piece of your youth gone.
Mainly, it gave me pause because Ms. Doherty was only 53 and somewhere, deep down, even though I had known she had been…
