Last week, I traded my phone alarm for a classic alarm clock that sits on my nightstand. I’ve started shutting my phone off early in the evening and not turning it back on until morning. The idea was given to me after finishing reading about a Rule of Life.

A Rule of Life is a set of practices to help you structure your days and live more intentionally.

A first heard about a Rule of Life a few years back, while still involved in the Christian church. I was reminded of it while reading Practicing the Way by John Mark Comer.

In the book, Comer talks about a Rule of Life, as the key to creating more space for Jesus so we can “become like him, and do as he did, as we live in alignment with our deepest desires.”

I didn’t agree with everything I read in this book, but I picked it up because, although I have no plans to return to church, there are things about the teachings of Jesus that have always resonated with me.

And I do agree with the importance of having a Rule of Life… even if the end goal isn’t to become a person of Jesus.
