BROKEN HEARTS IN THE WILD WEST — BLACK HONEY CELEBRATE THE RELEASE OF THE NEW ALBUM

Black Honey, an English quartet from Brighton, would prefer to remain a garage band. However, you cannot hide such talent forever. In 2014 their debut EP attracted attention and now here we are, celebrating the release of the band’s first self-titled long play album. In the light of this nostalgic yesterday-you-were-just-a-little-girl moment, for today’s article we picked a song that proves how mature the band really is. Black Honey is proud to present — “I Only Hurt The Ones I Love”.

How dangerous can a woman with a broken heart be? Deadly. In the single in question, Izzy Baxter, Black Honey’s vocalist, gives a magnificent showcase of merciless revenge. I mean for goodness sake, you cannot just do what you please with a strong woman. Be fair, respect her and no harm will come to you. Play games and it will quickly backfire. Love is the most powerful feeling, therefore, it can make us impulsive to the point when we might actually hurt the ones we love. Like, literally. Especially when you are not the first person breaking this girl’s heart — I’ll break it just like you broke mine.

The video for the single was shot in Texas Hollywood. That’s right, please don’t question my Geography knowledge, I know what I’m saying. This particular location is simply a Western-styled theme park in Spain. Izzy, dressed like a cowboy, plays a badass woman who’s been hurt and is up for revenge. Carrying a gun and a very determined expression on her face, she drinks, smokes cigarettes and contemplates the best plan for vengeance.

We also get glimpses of Izzy in a white wedding dress coming out of a church (oh, we all know what happened there), and sitting on the brink of a Hollywood sign — commonly known as the symbol of high hopes, dreams and big plans. And then, in that white dress, we see her sitting on a grave. No need to explain, let’s just say the plan has been executed successfully. Is she crying over lost happiness? Not necessarily. She’s obviously not beaming with joy either, yet her eyes just say “it’s sad but it was necessary”. I had to do what I have done, I only hurt the ones I love.

This is only the beginning for Black Honey, the single is the very first track on the record and there’s more where it came from. What other revenge plans can we expect on the self-titled album? Today is the day when we can all find out. One thing is certain — bad things come in threes so there should be a lot more for us to be worried about. Excuse me, to enjoy 🙂
