Murchison Falls

The reasons why Uganda is such an attractive tourism destination are so many that, I’m always spoilt for choice trying to figure out where to start. This isn’t looking for a needle in a haystack, but rather, searching for a beautiful pearl amongst beautiful pearls. Uganda is more than just the Pearl of Africa. It is a Pearl filled with smaller Pearls, all glowing to catch your attention. Amongst the many, there’s always that one which stands out from time to time, a Pearl among Pearls. Today’s special Pearl is the Murchison Falls.

Murchison Falls

This is a great waterfall in Uganda, found between L. Kyoga and L. Albert, running along the White Nile River. Locally named Kabalega Falls, after the great Omukama Kabalega of the vast Bunyoro Kitara Empire, these falls stand true to their legendary name.

The Devil’s Cauldron

The Murchison Falls National Park

The Nile, which is around 50 meters wide above the waterfalls, turbulently pours and rushes through a gorge, around 8 meters wide, famously known as the Devil’s Cauldron. Then, it powerfully plummets down through a height of about 45 meters, creating the grand Murchison Falls, which have been falling for centuries. It is so easy to fall in love with the falls! I understand why they say that everyone falls for the bad girl or bad boy, because I didn’t just fall for the bad one, I fell for the Devil’s Cauldron.

This is one of the most picturesque parts of these falls, spoiling you with dazzling views of rainbows. Take a ride to the bottom of these falls and you’ll be stunned by the variety of flora and fauna. In a nutshell, the Devil’s Cauldron is truly tempting!

Elephants at Murchison Falls Np

But, worry not, there’s no Crime Scene here, just Prime Scenery, especially in the surrounding park, which is none other than the famous Murchison Falls National Park. Seated on the shores of Lake Albert, at the northern end of the Great Albertine Rift Valley, Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest conservation area, and the oldest, boasting 9 decades. It is most certainly one place not to miss out on your voyage to the Murchison falls. It proudly hosts over 70 species of mammals, such as the elephants, Nile crocodiles, giraffes, hippos, buffalo, and over 400 species of birds, including Aquatic birds.

Make a CHOICE from the CHOICEST

Now that you’re probably contemplating a visit, you have three choices of visit time, as summarised below:

The Low Season: This is the period from April to May and October to November, during which heavy rains are experienced, rendering some roads impassable. However, this is the time to see a variety of migratory birds

The High Season: This period runs from June to September, when the park receives the most number of tourists, who enjoy the experience of both the heavy rains and the high temperatures

The Overall Best time: This period, running from December to February, on average, is the best time to visit. It is during this time that the dry season is experienced, and during which it is easy to see lots of wild life. However, it is during this time that the temperatures are unbearably hot. But, if you’re planning to tan away, this is a good chance not to turn away!

Time and space will fail me, if go on and on about the amazing food, cultures, and people in this area. Indeed, for Murchison Falls and its Park, there’s much to be felt, tasted, seen, heard, and said. Not to forget are the luxurious Safari Lodges in and around the park, where you can relax after an adventurous trek through the park.

ELLINGTON SAFARIS is poised to take you on a wild adventure to the falls, around the park, and the lodges of your choice. There’s surely much to be said about Murchison, which, in a number of aspects, cannot be matched.

Why here?

It is HERE that you will HEAR countless gallons of waters as they gallop through the Devil’s Cauldron with a THUNDEROUS ROAR!
