I have an odd relationship with the number 13. Whereas most avoid 13 like the plague, I actually quite like it. The number 13 has never been bad to me from what I can recall.

I’ve never been a superstitious guy. I don’t believe in luck, good or bad. And I’m certainly not a sufferer of triskaidekaphobia, which is the extreme suspicion of the number 13.

Years ago, when I was learning to drive, I accidentally booked my practical test for Friday 13th, 2012. The 13th and a Friday; the double-whammy. Super unlucky, right?

Wrong. I passed.

Why did I pass? Because I practiced until I was ready for the test and did the job on the day. Friday 13th or no Friday 13th, if I’d failed to prepare, I had damn well better have been prepared to fail.

Everything is on us. Each success and each failure is down to what we do, and how we adjust to unexpected changes. Those changes aren’t bad luck, they’re just occurrences which test how well prepared we are. Placing blame on bad luck just leaves you looking like someone who has run out of excuses.

Prepare yourself properly, and you’ll be ready for every eventuality.

The more observant among you will notice that this Chapter is a part of Moving Mountains. Moving Mountains is my new Publication where every past and future Chapter will be sent to sit and look pretty. (For the not so observant, check the sky blue bar at the top). Yesterday’s post explained the reasoning behind the name. If you missed it, you can catch up here:

Also, Abbie, thanks for the suggestion for today’s Chapter. Much appreciated.
