I wish trams were cheaper
I enjoy getting the tram home after staying late in the city centre. It’s quicker than the bus, it’s less bumpy than the bus, it’s (generally) quieter than the bus.
It’s better than the bus.
But, every morning, I get the bus to work. It’s easy enough for me to do — I have one stop 5 minutes from my flat, and the other is quite literally across the road from my office — but… it’s the bus.
Once you’ve had a taste of what the tram offers, the bus just seems so inconvenient. So slow. So, just, bus-like.
And yet for how much I long to get the tram home every evening — and love to get it home late at night — there’s one thing stopping me from doing so.
Money.
For a guy like myself, earning what I do, the tram is damn expensive.
£22 a week/£73 four-weekly/£830 annually for the tram for Burton Road to Deansgate/Castlefield, just one stop to one stop.
£13.50 a week/£50 four-weekly/£575 annually for a Stagecoach Megarider which lets me go anywhere in Greater Manchester.
It’s a no-brainer.
One day, I’ll sack off the bus. For now though, I just wish trams were cheaper.
Or maybe, really, I wish I earned more.
