The one way to continually find success

I think I can safely assume — as much as I hate to assume — that we all find happiness in success. Be it monetary, workplace and/or personal success, our minds get a smack of dopamine when a target is hit.

So, taking it one step further, we all want success, right? We crave it.

But we don’t all get it, at least not to the levels we hope to reach.

Why?

Lack of hard work? Maybe.

Lack of smart work? Possibly.

Just haven’t found that bit of a luck? Eh, sometimes.

Failed to write down and visualise your goals? Very likely.

Those goals and visions and dreams in our heads are fantastic, they drive us and guide our decisions. But they’re make-believe, they exist only in our minds. We need to make them tangible, something that we — and others — can see.

Back in Chapter 173 I asked: Where do you want to be in half a decade?

And I answered my own question: I want to be in New York.

That’s a goal. For now, at least, one my my goals is to be in New York by the time I’m 27. And I’ve written it down. I’ve shared it for all to see. I’ve visualised it.

Without doing that, getting to New York would only ever be a thought stuck in my head. Getting it out means it’s no longer just a dream, it’s a mission.

If you want to succeed, visualise your goals. Pull out a scrap of paper — whatever you can find — and scribble down everything you want to achieve.

Put the goal. Put the date at the time of writing. Put a date you want to have achieved the goal by.

Now you’ve got targets to hit. Now you’ve got an excuse to work harder.

Go do.
