This is the second edition of the Sunday Summary, a weekly post that recaps my previous seven days of Chapter-ing. This way, you can get a quick snapshot of my week, and delve in to any posts you might’ve missed.

I’ve also added a new section in this week, which is dedicated to the Medium articles I’ve read and been super impressed by over the last seven days.

Without further ado, here’s my last week of daily Chapter writing on Modern Street Talk in summary.

Monday

If there’s one thing I’ve learned since the start of 2015, it’s that networking is a powerful tool. Being social, talking to people and making connections is the most effective way to learn and grow, both personally and professionally. Nothing else comes close.

It’s a surprise to me that after now 91 days of daily writing, I’ve only yet dedicated one Chapter to networking and personal/professional connection-making. That one Chapter was this past Monday, where I detailed how I make and keep powerful connections. It’s pretty straightforward when you break it down, and I wish more people had the confidence and belief in themselves to go out there and connect with more people. It’s pretty clear that, amongst young people, there is a severe lack of that confidence and belief.

Tuesday

With each problem comes more motivation to get shit done and build what needs to be built because creatives find a way. And if there is no way, they blaze a path.

I like Tuesday’s Chapter. I had the idea for it on Monday, but didn’t really think it was worth writing over the networking post. Once Tuesday arrived though, I sat down and wrote. And I think it came out good.

I hope it doesn’t read like I’ve let a little bit of internal sorrow tumble out on to the keyboard, but I’m a creative, so I thrive on knowing people care about my content. Really though, Tuesday’s Chapter was a rally cry to everyone out there who is on the verge of giving up simply because they don’t think enough people care.

Wednesday

I forgot to mention the free fruit. It’s the best part of the job and I forgot to mention the free fruit. Rookie error.

As the title suggests, Wednesday’s Chapter presented my first piece of (written) content for NCC Group, the company I’ve just started working full-time for. It was a simple Q&A between Kirsty (my boss) and I about my first week at NCC Group. Nothing crazy creative, but it was nice to have my name on a piece of content just over a week in to working there.

Thursday

TED Talks move people to action. They inspire and motivate and energise. If more people sat down and listened to what TED speakers had to say, the world would be a better place.

Friday

Get following Modern Street Talk on Twitter and Facebook if you haven’t already:

Saturday

Content should be worthwhile, meaningful and memorable. Not pointless and forgettable.

Avoid clickbait, avoid Buzzfeed.

Kill the listicle.

After writing a kinda-listicle on Thursday, realising how kinda-lazy it was (even if the content was something I was keen to share) and doing some reading, I came to the conclusion that reading and writing listicles will no longer be a habit of mine.

Stuff I’ve read and loved on Medium this week

I am not the pancakes I make. I am not my job title. I am not the work I do. I am a person, more complex than any of my achievements or failures.

I only just found Mike Sturm this week after Jon Westenberg recommended him, but wow, Mike is a seriously great writer. I am Not The Pancakes is by far the favourite content I’ve come across these past seven days, and it’s absolutely worth your time.

I’m making this blog as a visual diary of my time in Oz and throughout Asia including cool GoPro vids that I thought people might like to watch and photos alongside. Oh, and not forgetting to reassure my family that I’m not dead.

This first Medium post from Vanessa Rose Graham is cool for a number of reasons. One, she’s on an international exchange for a whole year which I couldn’t ever imagine being able to do but I bet is going to be incredible. Two, she made a cool Go Pro movie of the cycle journey from her new Canberra home to university. And three, Melbourne and Canberra look hella interesting from the look of some of the photos in this post.

Keep it up Nessa, I’d like to read more.

Thanks for reading Chapter 91!
