Elliot makes a wish

Earlier this year, we were referred to Make-a-Wish and were soon visited by two lovely folks from the charity who wanted to find out what Elliot’s wish might be. We eventually settle on meeting superheros, flying a helicopter and maybe some theme parks. They show up one night with lots of balloons, a Lego brick E-shaped cake baked by a volunteer and a booklet with a packed program. We’re going to the Gold Coast, along with Elliot’s best friend and meeting his grandparents who live near there!

We’re all super excited for our trip!

After a short flight and shuttle transfer, we arrive at our gorgeous 5-star apartment on the 32nd floor in Broadbeach, with amazing beach views:

It looked like this every day.

Our first stop is Movie World, where Elliot not only receives his driving licence but also gets to meet one of his favourite superheros:

After a full day (which included tricking his grandparents to go on the DC Rivals HyperCoaster), we head back to our pad for refreshments and soaking up the views.

We travel to Surfers Paradise for the next attraction — indoor skydiving! Elliot gets to wear the Flash costume and takes to the turbine like a natural:

The grin says it all

The next day, Elliot and I head for another highlight of the trip: a 20-minute scenic helicopter ride up and down the Gold Coast!

Elliot is again smiling the entire time, and points to every black and orange helicopter that flies past for the rest of the trip, saying that it’s ours.

We spend the remainder of our week lounging around, eating fabulous food and strolling on the beach.

All up, we have an unforgettable week on the Gold Coast and are incredibly grateful to Make-A-Wish and its donours, volunteers and supporters for making this trip possible. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

We return to Melbourne relaxed and happy, ready for the cooler months ahead.

We’re not ready for what happens next, though.
